Ad Campaign: Because Not Every Home is a House (Updated in 2008!)

NMHC/NAA have launched a major advertising campaign to remind policy makers about the importance of apartments in creating strong and healthy communities.

The campaign, titled “Because not every home is a house,” is meant to challenge the often unquestioned notion that homeownership alone can solve our most pressing housing and community development challenges.

The advertising campaign showcases the different faces of apartment dwellers —faces you might not expect; faces of our friends and neighbors.   They include empty nesters, a fireman, a teacher, a young married couple and “city living” aficionados.  Each of them has a different reason for choosing apartment living.  And each of them is integral to the success of our communities.

The ads ask some tough questions, including:

  • “what makes the best communities,”
  • “are we putting people at risk by encouraging homeownership at any cost,” and
  • “do we want our first responders living miles away,” among others.
