Worker Training and Certification Regulations:

Worker Training and Certification Regulations

These 1996 regulations (40 CFR Part 745 and 24 CFR Part 35) address requirements for certification and training of professionals involved in lead paint risk assessment, inspection, abatement or related work in public or private housing and child-occupied facilities such as day care centers, preschool and kindergarten classrooms.

They ensure that: (1) contractors engaged in activities involving lead-based paint are trained and certified; (2) training programs are accredited; and (3) standards are set for performing lead-based paint activities.

In addition to the already required notifications about LBP at the time of a rental transaction and when repair activities will potentially disturb LBP, additional federal lead regulations require property owners to ensure that maintenance workers receive EPA-approved training and in some cases become certified to carry out routine O&M procedures. This webinar reviews these requirements. (2008)
