Workforce Housing Resource Center

The lack of affordable housing for service workers, healthcare workers and first responders is a well-known problem with no easy solution.  High land and construction costs, regulatory barriers and local impact fees make it virtually impossible to build, rehabilitate and operate apartments at rents affordable to these workers in any mid- to large-size metro area.

The National Multi Housing Council recognizes that localities that want workforce housing--and developers who want to provide it--have to find creative ways to bridge the gap between construction costs and affordable rents.

NMHC's Workforce Housing Resource Center offers a variety of interactive tools and resources to help elected official and housing profressionals meet the nation's housing needs.

Interactive Workforce Housing Project Estimator

Our Workforce Housing Project Estimator helps developers, investors and policy makers determine what combination of incentives is necessary to make a project financially viable.

This interactive assessment tool allows users to conduct scenario testing to evaluate the impact of a wide range of affordable housing incentives on the feasibility of a workforce housing development.  These range from tax abatements and expedited permitting to land contributions.
