The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are reaching out to the apartment community to identify short-term and long-term rental units available for the victims of Hurricane Katrina in need of housing.
The most immediate needs are in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and South Florida. If you have rental units that can be leased by the victims in or around these areas, please send the following information to the Department of Homeland Security so it can be added to their clearinghouse.
Please send the following information via e-mail to Private.sector@dhs.gov
- Number of units
- Size of each available unit
- Rent per unit (Rental rates should reflect current market rates to avoid the perception of artificially-inflated prices)
- Location
- Contact information
- Company web site (if available)
NOTE: This information is meant to supplement, not replace, other FEMA and local efforts. If you are being asked to submit this information to FEMA or local authorities, please continue to do so.
If you are a victim of Hurricane Katrina and seeking resources to aid your recovery process, please visit the FEMA website for the most up to date information at www.FEMA.gov.
If you have any questions, please contact Jeanne Delgado at 202/974-2344 or jdelgado@nmhc.org. We thank you in advance for your efforts to help rebuild the lives of the hurricane victims.
