White Paper: Pushing Back on Homeownership

Homeownership has always been an important part of the American fabric, but there is mounting evidence that the nation’s aggressive homeownership policies may be doing more damage than good.  This White Paper reviews research by the Fannie Mae Foundation and the Harvard University Joint Center for Housing Studies documenting the darker side of our homeownership incentives.

The common current in all of these studies is the notion that trying to become a nation of 100 percent home owners could well be an unfortunate turn for many of those home owners, for local communities, and for the national economy.
