Evaluation and Judging

Top 10 Semi-Finalists Evaluation and Judging

  •  NMHC will review all entries for completeness and eligibility only;
  •  A task force of industry leaders will be selected by NMHC staff;
  • All eligible entries will be sorted by professional discipline (i.e. marketing, technology, operations, etc.);
  •  Task force members will review and score the entries most aligned with their professional discipline specialty for the following criteria:
    • How innovative the product or service is; and
    • The ability of the product or service to solve an apartment industry challenge.
  • Task force members will then rank the entries from their most to least favorite;
  • The composite score (innovation 0-5, ability to solve challenge 0-5, and ranking 0-10) will determine the top 10 semi-finalist rankings;
  • Any ties will go back to the full task force for voting to break the tie;
  • The top ten semi-finalists will be notified and will proceed to the next round of judging which will determine the four finalists.

Finalists Evaluation and Judging

  • The ten semi-finalists applications will be reviewed by the entire task force;
  • Task force members will be asked to choose the four semi-finalists that they’d like to see compete at 2017 OPTECH;
  • The composite scores of the chosen semi-finalists will determine the four finalists who will compete at the 2017 OPTECH Conference;
  • Any tie scores will go back to the full task force for voting to break the tie;
  • Other than ensuring that entries are complete and eligible, and tabulating scoring, NMHC staff does not play any role in selecting the semi-finalists, finalists, or winners. In addition, all task force members remain “blind” to who the other task force members are to avoid any potential for collusion.

OPTECH Final Four Competition

The NMHC Launch Pad competition was held at the 2017 NMHC OPTECH Conference & Exposition and consisted of presentations by four finalists followed by questions from a panel of industry and technology experts who were not involved in selecting the semi-finalists or the finalists. The expert panel was assembled by NMHC staff annually, but none have served for more than two consecutive years. After the panel questioning and review, the OPTECH audience voted live and selected the winner of the 2017 NMHC OPTECH Technology Innovation Award
