With primary season in full swing, the make-up of the Senate is most definitely in play and it is becoming clear that the size of the Republican or Democratic majority in the Senate will surely be narrow.
Democrats face several challenges in trying to maintain their majority in the Senate. They are defending 21 of the 36 seats that are up for reelection. Seven of those seats were carried by Mitt Romney in the last presidential election. In addition, traditionally the president’s party tends to lose seats in a midterm election.
Given this math, Republican Senators are almost certain to
make at least some gains in this year’s elections. Most credible sources are
predicting a four to eight seat gain for the Republicans in the Senate.
NMHC PAC has been active in many Senate races, including supporting 20 Senate campaigns breaking down to 11 Democratic and nine Republican candidates.
It’s a long way until November 4th and much can happen. NMHC PAC will continue to support the candidates that understand the important role of the multifamily industry and related issues.
