House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s, R-Va., stunning loss in this week’s primary - covered above in this week’s edition of Multifamily Mark Up - has emphasized the importance of participating in primary elections. Primaries have consequences. Participating in the process is important so make sure that your vote is counted in these critical primary elections by voting individually and also encouraging your colleagues to vote for the candidates that understand and support the issues that matter most to the multifamily industry. Four more states will hold their primaries on June 24, including Colorado, Maryland, Oklahoma and Utah.
Notably, incumbent Senator Mark Udall, D-Colo., was expected to be a lock for a 2nd term victory until GOP Representative Cory Gardner announced that he would be running this year. Gardner has managed to clear out any primary contenders and it looks like a squaring off between these two candidates in the general election is inevitable. NMHC PAC has supported both candidates in the past with Udall being particularly educated and active on the issues impacting multifamily.
