Vote to include multifamily in the cutting-edge discussions happening at South by Southwest this spring.
It’s time to get multifamily a seat at America’s largest and most acclaimed table for innovation, culture and technology: South by Southwest (SXSW). Multifamily sits at the crossroads of all these ideas and yet housing, much less rental housing, has largely been absent from the rich dialogue at SXSW. We want to change that, ensuring our industry has a voice at this important hub of change, discovery and learning.
To that end, we’ve developed four session proposals just for SXSW. These sessions cover important industry trends, highlight innovations happening in our space and showcase some of the best of NMHC’s membership.
In rethinking labor, materials, zoning, and the entitlement process, experts from NMHC, Hanley Wood, Allied Orion Group and Katerra will identify new tech-based solutions to eliminate costs and expedite the building process, as well as explaining solutions that the audience can implement or benefit from.
Despite progress in PropTech, the industry still has significant unmet tech needs. There is, for example, tremendous opportunity for scalable tech solutions to drive efficiencies and value in the RentTech niche of PropTech. Panelists from NMHC, Greystar, Real Estate Technology Ventures and BH Management will identify where capital and solutions are going—and, more importantly, where they aren’t.
Tectonic shifts in households, work, consumer preferences, tech and more are poised to radically reshape the living experience for the nation’s 39 million apartment dwellers. Apartment homes in the future will need to be more connected, personalized, flexible, convenient and healthier than ever. Speakers from NMHC, con.jun.ction and AvalonBay will discuss how apartment design and development can better adapt to changes, minimizing the drag from disruption. Some of these concepts will be illustrated through a series of innovative, VR-enabled visualizations.
Expectations of home are changing as tech, sustainability, health and mobility become more important. Specialists from NMHC, Bozzuto Group and LMC, a Lennar Company, will discuss the results of an exclusive survey of more than 372,000 apartment renters to identify the different features, perks, services and technologies that matter most. These experts will also share the strategies and tools being applied to balance consumer expectations with the realities of building an inclusive and accessible residential community.
Having reliable and affordable access to a broadband connection in the home is critical for individual and community-level economic and educational advancement. However, bringing connectivity to the home can be anything but plug and play. Deploying broadband carries with it a host of challenges ranging from infrastructure costs to regulatory barriers or even technical and design limitations. The economics of deployment requires strong partnerships between property owners and service providers. Leading apartment firms and wireless broadband providers are collaborating on alternative solutions that can overcome these obstacles and bridge the digital divide and deliver affordable, reliable broadband to underserved populations.
We want to bring each of these key ideas the attention they deserve. Please support our efforts by voting online for our panels as part of SXSW’s Panel Picker process. In just three easy steps, you can bring us one step closer to punching our ticket to SXSW and putting a national spotlight on the industry.
How to Vote:
- Create an account with SXSW.
- Visit each of our panel’s pages (linked above).
- “Vote-up” each panel and move us closer to presenting these pioneering ideas at one of the world’s largest conferences.
SXSW’s Panel Picker process is a major factor in how content is selected. Without enough votes, we do not stand a chance at being selected, omitting those four innovative topics from the national discussion. We are up against 6,000 other applicants. We need your help today.
The deadline to vote is August 23, so don’t wait!
