NMHC PAC Chairwoman Sue Ansel of Gables Residential, completed her first year at the helm with a record-breaking 2016! The PAC receipts totaled just under $1.6 million with 165 member firms supporting NMHC PAC and 1,702 individuals investing their hard-earned dollars in the PAC. The success of 2016 underscores that NMHC members understand a well-funded PAC is a key tool for advocating on behalf of the apartment industry. NMHC PAC helps educate elected officials so they have a thorough grasp of our issues and understand the important role multi-housing plays in the U.S. economy.
NMHC PAC contributed $2.8 million this past election cycle to 262 Congressional campaigns, leadership PACs and party committees. NMHC PAC supported winning candidates with a 92% victory rate in the Senate and 97% rate in the House.
During the Annual Meeting in San Diego, Sue Ansel awarded members who led the industry in supporting the PAC. While no single firm or person is solely responsible for the PAC exceeding its $1.5 million goal, below are the industry leaders that were recognized for their steadfast and generous support of NMHC PAC.
Marcus & Millichap/Institutional Property Advisors (IPA) continued to hold the #1 spot as the largest of NMHC PAC contributing firms- all-time high of $148,038. John Sebree led the charge for Marcus.
Equity Residential was the second overall top contributor - bringing in another record - $109,525. Alan George drove their efforts.
The third overall top contributor was CBRE raising $55,100. Past NMHC Chairman and also PAC Chairman, Peter Donovan accepted the award.
The largest increase in support was awarded to NorthMarq Capital - bringing in $32,700. Susan Blumberg rallied her team.
The top overall contributor at the Board level was Cushman & Wakefield with a record breaking, $31,850. Byron Moger received the award.
The second overall top Board contributor was RealPage, Andrea Massey was the lead and did a fantastic job. RealPage raised $30,131.
Rounding out this group, the third Board contributor was AMLI Residential, raising $17,650. Greg Mutz continued his strong leadership at AMLI.
The final award was given to the largest fundraiser in the Advisory Committee, this honor went to Entrepreneurial Properties Corporation ($17,000). Matt Wherry accepted the award.
Currently, Sue, along with the PAC Committee, and the NMHC government affairs team are laying out the strategy for this off-election year. Plans are being developed to raise funds and continue to support key members of Congress who work for a strong multifamily industry. The committee anticipates 2017 to be another banner year for NMHC PAC.
