Thanks to NMHC member support, the NMHC PAC enjoyed its best fundraising year to date in 2016. As of November 30, we have surpassed our $1.5 million goal. These funds were strategically distributed in a bipartisan manner to multifamily allies in the Senate and House. Election night may have held a big surprise for the nation at the Presidential level, but for the House and Senate races NMHC PAC was right on the money.
In the Senate, 23 of the 25 NMHC PAC supported candidates won their races - a 92 percent victory rate. On the House side, we were even more successful with 229 wins in 237 races - a 96.7 percent win rate.
Importantly, we start out 2017 in a strong position. We knew it would be important to be able to hit the ground running at the start of the new Congress, and thanks to our long-term, strategic planning, we will start out the new election cycle with over $660,000 cash on hand. Critical Issues important to the industry such as tax reform, GSE reform, infrastructure spending, and regulatory reform are reportedly on the fast track and these are all issues that have the ability to impact your bottom line. As you know, our industry priorities do not end there and we need your help to identify the pressing issues that are impacting your business and operations. This week, we released a legislative member survey and are asking our members to respond by December 15. Click here to take the survey.
Serving as your advocate in Washington, DC is one of the most important things we do; and the support that you give us through the PAC allows us to do that effectively. Join us in kicking off the year at NMHC’s Annual Meeting in January where our NMHC PAC breakfast will feature Jeff Greenfield, an award-winning television journalist and author focusing on politics, media, and culture. Over the course of his career, he served as a senior political correspondent for CBS, a senior analyst for CNN, and a political and media analyst for ABC News.
As 2016 winds down, we would like to thank all the NMHC PAC supporters for their deep commitment and ongoing support. We look forward to continuing to be the voice of the multifamily industry on Capitol Hill.
