Dear NMHC Members,
As I consider the reality of stepping down from leading NMHC for the past 21 years, I cannot tell you how proud I am of all the Council has achieved during that time.
We have expanded from having the best advocacy program in the industry led by true subject matter experts to having the go-to research team for anything multifamily and an innovation and future business strategy team. We also launched the industry’s most extensive ever public relations program.
Throughout my tenure, I have worked hard to create new revenue sources to support a continuously growing program of work. And we have benefited from our sponsors who stood by us despite the tumult created by a global pandemic.
The challenges ahead of us are some of the largest we have ever faced. The housing affordability crisis has us in the crosshairs of policymakers looking for quick fixes like rent control. We also routinely have to act to preserve a reasonable regulatory and tax framework that allows our industry to succeed. And we are not immune to the disruption facing every sector.
NMHC is incredibly unique in the association world for many reasons. Key among them is that minus one adjustment we made to the Associate level of membership several years back, we have not increased our overall membership dues structure over our 44-year history.
For NMHC to remain best in class, however, we need to make investments to strengthen the organization further and broaden the outreach and services our membership counts on.
To ensure we are prepared for that future, we have had to revisit our dues structure and registration fees. It is not a move we take lightly, but we need to ensure that NMHC is a strong and sustainable organization that can continue to benefit this incredible industry.
Beginning with our October 1, 2022 renewals, our dues will increase by $1,500 at all membership levels. NMHC’s leadership decided that since the Executive Committee and Board of Directors members provide the majority of the Council’s sponsorship revenue, an equal increase across all memberships is appropriate. These updated dues will be reflected in the invoices distributed later in August.
I thank you for allowing me the opportunity to work for you these last 21 years, and I appreciate your understanding our need to implement this change. I know our membership is committed to keeping NMHC the industry’s leading advocate.
