NMHC’s Emerging Leaders Group is designed to cultivate future leaders in the apartment industry. The program offers national and regional networking events that allow emerging leaders an opportunity to meet and interact with their peers. It also provides forums where participants can meet and learn from top industry leaders who share their insight, lessons learned and steps taken to achieve their success.
Participation in Emerging Leaders activities is available to all employees from NMHC member firms who are under the age of 40 and have at least five years of experience. Because the program is primarily an open networking program, member firms may have as many young leaders as they would like sign up. There is no limit on the number of employees who can be added to our database.
The program is guided by the NMHC Emerging Leader Committee. The current members are listed here. Each January, five members rotate off the committee and five new members rotate on to serve a three-year term. New committee members are recommended by the existing committee members and are eventually selected with gender, ethnic and geographic diversity in mind as well as a diversity in the type of firms (owners, developers, managers, brokers, lenders, etc). Those interested in joining the committee are encouraged to contact the existing committee members and to actively participate in our Speaker Series events (see below) and our committee meetings at NMHC’s three membership meetings a year (January, May and September).
2021 Events
The Emerging Leaders Program hosts regional Speaker Series events each year. These events feature industry leaders in a fireside chat format followed by a reception and standalone regional networking receptions. To create high-level networking opportunities, participation is typically limited to approximately 75 people.
The 2021 schedule is below:
- January 26, 2021 - Emerging Leaders Virtual Networking Event with Senior Executives (Registeration Now Open)
Emerging Leader PAC Program
Housing policy is at the forefront of many policy discussions in Washington, D.C., and NMHC continues to advocate on behalf of the multifamily industry. One of the keys to NMHC’s successful advocacy strategy is NMHC PAC. NMHC PAC is the premier fund aggressively pursuing the election and re-election of elected officials who work to improve, preserve and promote the multifamily industry. The NMHC PAC ensures the multifamily industry can have a direct impact on the policies that affect how your company operates and how successful it can be. NMHC’s Emerging Leaders have always been an important part of NMHC PAC.
In 2019, NMHC created the Emerging PAC Leaders program to recognize the contributions of the NMHC Emerging Leaders. Any under-40 employee of an NMHC member firm who contributes to the PAC will automatically be added to the program and will benefit from special recognition and unique opportunities.
