How Are Committee Leaders/Members Chosen?
All committee leaders and members are chosen by the NMHC President in consultation with the NMHC Officers and existing committee leadership.
Preference for the leadership positions (Chair and Vice Chair) is given to individuals from Executive and Board of Directors member firms. Committee leaders are generally chosen from existing committee members.
Committee members can come from any level of membership, although some committees/subcommittees are limited to individuals from firms whose primary business is owning, developing and managing apartments.
How Long Do Committee Leaders Serve?
Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs serve two-year terms. The Vice Chair will become Chair after serving their two-year Vice Chair term.
How Long Do Committee Members Serve?
Members can serve a maximum of three (3) two-year terms before being required to leave the committee for at least one (1) year.
When Do the Committees/Subcommittees Meet?
Our committees conduct their work via in-person meetings at NMHC’s conferences and membership meetings. They also meet via teleconference between meetings.
How Can I Participate?
Most of our committees are “open” committees, meaning that you do not have to be a committee member to participate. All NMHC members are invited to attend the in-person committee/subcommittee meetings of our open committees. Attending these meetings is a good way to identify yourself as a possible future committee member. A limited number of committees/subcommittees are closed.
How Can I Join a Committee/Subcommittee?
Members interested in being named to a committee/subcommittee are encouraged to attend the in-person committee/subcommittee meetings to participate in the dialogue and offer suggestions for the Council’s program of work. Attending these meetings is a good way to identify yourself as a possible future committee member.
