When attended my first Emerging Leaders Committee meeting at the NMHC Conference in January 2015, I had no idea how much it would shape my career and professional network. When I walked into that room, I felt an immediate connection to the individuals and the group. While the resumes and titles of the committee members were undeniably impressive, what truly set this group apart was its attitude, enthusiasm, and inclusivity. Clearly, this was more than just a professional network—it was a community.
Nearly a decade later, I am honored to serve as the 2025 Chair of the Emerging Leaders Committee. It is a privilege to build upon the strong foundation set by prior leadership and continue expanding the committee’s influence. This group has been instrumental in my professional journey, and I am excited to give back by fostering opportunities for others to experience the same benefits.
In many ways, the Emerging Leaders Committee has become a chosen family. In an industry where our schedules are packed with meetings we must attend, it is rare and special to have a group whose gatherings we genuinely look forward to. The friendships and connections I have made through the Emerging Leaders program have helped me grow professionally and made my job more fun and rewarding on a personal level. Whether it’s closing deals, sharing best practices, or celebrating each other’s career milestones, the relationships formed within this group add a meaningful, personal dimension to our work.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of being involved with the committee is meeting new professionals just beginning their journey in the industry. Attending Emerging Leaders events and speaking with someone at their first event—seeing their excitement and curiosity—reminds me why this program is so valuable. If we, as committee members, can help others experience the same sense of belonging and opportunity, we will have accomplished something meaningful for the next generation of leaders.
Looking ahead to 2025, the committee is focused on several key goals. We aim to engage Emerging Leaders nationwide through four in-person and two digital events, building on past successes and driving record turnout. We are also preparing for the highly anticipated “Young Guns” pitch competition at the NMHC 2026 Annual Meeting, a must-attend event each January. Additionally, we are committed to strengthening internal connections within the committee through thoughtful monthly programming, enhancing engagement with committee alumni, and serving as a resource for the broader Emerging Leaders community through individual outreach and informal connections. Most importantly, we want to hear from our members and continue fostering an environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued.
As we embark on another exciting year, I am eager to see how the Emerging Leaders Committee continues to grow and evolve. This group's impact extends beyond our events and meetings—it lies in the relationships we build, the knowledge we share, and the opportunities we create for one another. I am grateful to be part of this journey and look forward to working together to make 2025 a year of meaningful connections and success for all.
