Washington, D.C. – The National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) elected Ken Valach, chief executive officer of Trammell Crow Residential, to serve a two-year term as the Council’s chair at its Annual Meeting.
Following the last two years of the pandemic, financial distress and overall volatility, Valach is focused on how the Council can help lead the industry into the new world created by the generational disruption caused by COVID-19.
His top priority is to lead the search for a new CEO to replace Doug Bibby, who has led the organization for 20 years but who will step down in January 2023.
"NMHC has long been recognized as the voice of the industry on Capitol Hill and a thought leader critical to helping the multifamily sector navigate an ever-evolving business landscape. During COVID-19, the Council was an invaluable resource to the industry,” said Valach. “Looking ahead, we will continue to expand on these achievements by putting in place top personnel, prioritizing key industry goals and fighting to secure the best business environment possible for NMHC members.”
Additional priorities include: Housing Affordability, Human Capital, DEI - Opportunity for All, the Regulatory Environment and Political Unity.
In his remarks Valach noted that,
“One of the biggest challenges facing our industry is housing affordability. We know the solution to rising rents: build more housing without unnecessary and costly government regulations and fees. Let the market work and we will have affordable housing.”
“The last two years have been unprecedented for the multifamily industry and the nation as a whole. The multifamily industry and our residents successfully weathered these storms in large part because of the generosity, creativity and ability of NMHC members,” said Doug Bibby, NMHC President. “As we move resolutely forward under the leadership and direction of Ken and his fellow officers, new challenges and opportunities will arise. As an industry, we can look forward with confidence that the drive, goodwill and ingenuity that guided us through the pandemic will continue to serve our industry well.”
