Incoming Chairman Daryl Carter Outlines Priorities
BOCA RATON, FL-The National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) elected Daryl J. Carter, Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Avanath Capital Management, LLC, to serve a two-year term as the Council’s Chairman. The event took place at the NMHC Annual Meeting on January 22 in Boca Raton, FL.
Avanath Capital Management is a Southern California-based investment firm focused on conventional and affordable multifamily investments and management throughout the U.S.
As Chairman of the national association that is the leading voice for the $1.1 trillion apartment industry, Carter will lead an NMHC agenda focusing on such priorities as ensuring that housing finance reform preserves a consistently reliable and competitively priced capital in all markets during all economic cycles. Ensuring pro-growth tax reform does not disadvantage apartment owners and renters relative to other asset classes is another top priority.
In addition, he plans to continue the NMHC/National Apartment Association campaign launched in 2013 to help policymakers understand the growing importance of the apartment sector. “Apartments. We Live Here” tells the story of how apartments are working for residents across America- helping 35 million Americans live in a home that’s right for them.
“Apartments are not always top of mind when policymakers think about housing, but with five million new renter households formed from 2007 to 2012, it’s increasingly clear that apartments are an integral part of our housing system,” said Carter.
“My priority over the next two years will be making sure policymakers at all levels of government understand how communities grow stronger through apartment jobs, dollars and residents,” said Carter. “Public policies informed by these facts will help ensure the apartment industry can meet the nation’s growing demand for rental housing and can be a key driver in our economy.”
NMHC also announced the appointment of the following officers for two-year terms:
- Vice Chairman: Bob DeWitt, Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of GID, Boston, MA
- Treasurer: Sue Ansel, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gables Residential, Dallas, TX
- Secretary: David Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Chairman of Waterton Associates, Chicago, IL.
