Privatized Military Housing

Since 1996, the apartment industry and the Department of Defense (DoD) have successfully partnered through the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI) to leverage private market forces to provide high-quality, affordable homes to military families. The long-term stability of the program rests on continued federal support for the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH), which is threatened by DoD budgetary pressures.
